Artistic Statement
I firmly believe that the life of art and the art of life are one. Artistic practice and research are inseparable, as both are driven by inquiries into humanity and probing how we, interconnected with everyone and everything, shape the world with its gifts and traumas from history.

The MC Showroom, Prahran, AustraliaGreetings to the loss of cells and memories in my body, leaves in fall, and the moon yesterday.HEY is the first dance work Weichen created after returning to Melbourne. Originally from China, Weichen has spent over a decade navigating a nomadic life, dancing across Australia and the United States. This piece emerges from the intersections of personal transformation and the passing of time, drawing on her reflections about the human body’s continual renewal—its metabolism—and its connection to nature, culture, and society. The phrase, “Greetings to the loss of cells and memories in my body, leaves in fall, and the moon yesterday,” encapsulates the melancholic realization that change, while inevitable, often leaves behind traces of nostalgia. Inspired by the unscientific yet poetic notion of a seven-year cycle of bodily renewal, Weichen reflects on her own journey: from graduating with a philosophy degree at Fudan University, to pivoting into dance, and eventually departing New York after completing her master’s studies. These moments, spanning over seven transformative years, prompted her to question: Am I still the same person I once was?Haocheng, a Chinese graphic designer with a background of living and working in Belgium, joined Weichen in this project after relocating to Melbourne. Together, their collaboration brings a shared perspective as Chinese artists living abroad, infusing HEY with their collective yearning to capture and reinterpret their fragmented memories, cultural identity, and the delicate interplay between loss and renewal. This work embodies their mutual quest to embrace change while honoring the echoes of the past, inviting audiences to pause and greet their own transformations along the way.《Hey》是我从纽约回到墨尔本后创作的第一个作品。千头万绪不知如何开始,我在本子上涂涂画画,最后留下一句话:“Greetings to the loss of cells and memories in my body, leaves in fall, and the moon yesterday.”
